Hazard Communication Programs, SDS Management, and Safety Labeling

A Hazard Communication Program is designed to ensure that employees are informed about the hazardous chemicals they may encounter in the workplace. This helps the employees ensure their own safety when working around chemicals and prevents accidents or injuries while on the job.

Based in Canton and serving clients nationwide, SRCO helps companies in construction and industry create and implement practical solutions to health and safety hazards in the workplace. The OSHA Standard that covers Hazard Communication is CFR 1910.1200.

Chemical Inventory/ Safety Data Sheets

According to CFR 1910.1200(e)(1)(i)
“A list of the hazardous chemicals known to be present using a product identifier that is referenced on the appropriate safety data sheet (the list may be compiled for the workplace as a whole or for individual work areas).”

According to CFR 1910.1200(g)(1)
“Chemical manufacturers and importers shall obtain or develop a safety data sheet for each hazardous chemical they produce or import. Employers shall have a safety data sheet in the workplace for each hazardous chemical which they use.”

Training on reading and understanding the SDS Sheet for the chemicals employees are exposed to is required under CFR 1910.1200(h).

SRCO can help develop a comprehensive chemical inventory and produce a book of all current SDS sheets for the chemicals found in the inventory. Regular reviews of the chemical inventory and SDS book can also be done. For more information on annual inspections, see the Annual Inspections page. We can also provide the training necessary for your employees.

Safety Labels & Signage

Under the Hazard Communication Standard, CFR 1910.1200, OSHA has requirements for labeling of hazardous chemicals/materials. This can be found under CFR 1910.1200(f).

Signs that can be found throughout the facility must also meet certain requirements, both in size and appearance, under CFR 1910.145 “Specifications for accident prevention signs and tags.”

Safety Resources can create and maintain both hazard communication labels and signs throughout the facility. For more information or help ensuring you have the correct signage, give us a call at (833) 793-7726 or fill out the contact form below.
